Ford Car Junkie

Keep the Old

Thinking of getting yourself a new car?

Hold that thought first.

According to the Car Care Council, taking better care of your current set of wheels may be a much better idea than buying a new car – that is, if you really want to cut down on your expenses. It estimates that more than $60 billion in vehicle maintenance and repair is not performed every year, evidence it says, that there is considerably more that consumers should be doing to protect their automotive investments.

Rich White, executive director of the Car Care Council explains: "Whether it's an oil change, replacing brakes or new belts and hoses, that periodic repair bill is a drop in the bucket compared to monthly payments on a new car. The bottom line is that a properly maintained vehicle is safe, more dependable, more fuel efficient, less polluting and more valuable. The smartest way to get a solid return on investment is to keep your car through what we call the 'Cinderella Era.' It's that period of time after the payoff when your car is still in great shape and needs only modest repairs."

Makes sense. Well if you’re beginning to think your Ford is getting old and boring, you can always give it a nice little facelift with add-ons here and there. A new set of Ford bumpers, or a Ford rear spoiler can add a little more excitement to your Ford’s appearance. You can always check out trusted online auto parts stores like Ford Parts Online for your choice of quality Ford parts for your car.

Afterall, that loving feeling shouldn’t have to disappear with age. Well, not if you can help it.

When Ford Meets Deer

It’s the stuff of driver’s nightmares (well, next to hitting humans that is): driving in a semi-deserted highway in your Ford F-150 then suddenly, out of nowhere, appears a brown, furry beast. Next thing you know the animal goes straight to your truck’s bumpers, bounces to your windshield and then lies lifeless in the middle of the road. You don’t know what hit you, but now, with the animal illuminated by your headlights in front of your truck, you do.

Too often, a collision with a deer, moose or elk occurs when the animal wanders from their homes in the wilderness to cross public roads. Unfortunately, nobody taught these poor creatures to look both ways first.

Usually, it’s the animals who lose in this collision, but that’s not to say that the accident does not take its toll in the vehicle too. The Insurance Information Institute reports that each year, about 700,000 animal-vehicle collisions cause about $1.2 billion in damage. And about 120 people die and another 10,000 are injured annually in such crashes, according to the National Safety Council.

While a foolproof way to prevent these animals from wandering to highways is yet to be discovered, you can help avoid unplanned meeting with a deer, moose or elk by following these suggestions from State Farm:

Be aware of your surroundings. Pay attention to "deer crossing" signs. Look well down the road and far off to each side. At night, use your Ford’s high-beam lights if possible to illuminate the road's edges. Be especially watchful in areas near woods and water. If you see one deer, there may be several others nearby.

Be particularly alert at dusk and dawn, when these animals venture out to feed.
If you see a deer, moose or elk on or near the roadway and think you have time to avoid hitting it, reduce your speed, tap your brakes to warn other drivers, and sound your horn. Deer tend to fixate on headlights, so flashing them may cause the animal to move. If there's no vehicle close behind you, brake hard.

If a collision seems inevitable, don't swerve to avoid the animal; your risk of injury may be greater if you do. Hit it, but control the vehicle. Report the accident to the police.
Always obey the speed limit and wear safety belts.

Note that your Ford headlights play an important role in avoiding this type of collision. Make sure that your headlights are functioning properly. Replace burnt out or worn headlights as soon as you can. Premium quality Ford headlights, as well as other Ford parts such as Ford wheels, Ford mirrors, and Ford A/C condensers are available at trusted online auto parts stores like Ford Parts Online. With proper maintenance and the right driver’s attitude, you can keep your Ford safe and the deer too.

Shelby GT500 convertible to Hit the Streets Again in 2006

Next year (2006), the world will see the Ford Shelby Cobra take on the streets again. The most powerful factory-built Ford Mustang in history will take to the streets next year (mid 2006), following a unique collaboration between performance car legend Carroll Shelby and the Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT).

Earlier this year, Ford took the wraps off the 450-plus-horsepower Ford Shelby Cobra GT500 show car at the New York International Auto Show. Designed in the unmistakable image of Shelby Mustangs of the 1960s, the Shelby Cobra GT500 and the SVT's modern engineering boasts of the big-block performance that made the original GT500 the king of the road is bound to make any car enthusiast drool.

Likely to rumble menacingly under the Shelby’s hood is a supercharged DOHC 5.4-liter V-8 with at least 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, similar to the 550-hp engine that powers the Ford GT. Coupled with that engine will be a six-speed manual transmission, however, unlike the previous-generation Mustang Cobra, the new Shelby will not get an independent rear suspension. Instead, the solid rear axle from regular-duty Mustangs gets tweaked and tuned by SVT. Changes to the suspension include new springs, dampers, and anti-roll bars designed to make the most of the larger, wider 19-inch wheels and tires. Slowing the Shelby GT500 will be 14-inch front brakes and 13-inch rear brakes by Brembo.

Replacing Your Ford’s Splash Shields

Just as you are better off with a raincoat as well as an umbrella in the rain - your ford car
too, can use as much protection from the elements that you can give.

When it comes to protecting your car from the elements, the splash shield - a removable device found on disc brakes, does its job by keeping water and dirt from fouling your vehicle’s brakes. This stamped sheet-metal deflector plate located behind the disc-brake rotor also improves the flow of air over the rotor. The splash shield may not be as important in the car as the engine is, but it does help keep things running smoothly, especially when given the proper attention.

Where to Find Radiator for Your Ford Mustang

Ford Mustang is one of Ford’s most successful models. It is a sports car introduced in 1964 as a smaller version of Pontiac’s popular full-size muscle car, the Pontiac GTO. The Ford Mustang is considered as the first “pony car” and probably the last as well since it is the only pony car that is still in production to date.

High performance vehicles such as the Ford Mustang require hard-wearing auto parts that could endure the high demands of fast driving. Among the auto parts that work doubly hard in a sports vehicle is the auto radiator. This auto part performs a critical task of cooling the engine. It removes at least one-third of the total amount of heat being produced by the engine during the combustion process, which is significantly helpful. Without the radiator, the engine would over heat and thus, become inutile.

If you have an old Ford Mustang that needs replacement radiator, you don’t have to worry because you can easily find new and used Ford parts at thousands of auto parts stores online. Visit Ford Parts Online, one of the most reliable sources of high quality Ford parts like the Ford Mustang radiator. You can also find here Ford Mustang A/C condenser, Ford Mustang grille , Ford Mustang taillights, Ford Mustang Spoilers and Ford Mustang wheels.
