Ford Car Junkie

Dust Art

If your Ford Focus is dirty, dusty and looking like you drove it through an ash fall – you could head for the cleaners…or you could do a Scott Wade – and turn your dusty vehicle to a one of a kind artwork.

Scott Wade of San Marcos, TX, creates masterpieces on the back window of his dusty MINI Cooper using his fingers, traditional tolls like brushes as well as unconventional ones like popsicle sticks. Some strokes here and there and voila a ‘Mona Lisa’ or ‘Starry Night’ recreation.

Dust Art

Very nice huh? Gives a whole new meaning to a car looking good.

If you’re no Scott Wade though, keeping your car in perfect shape should be good enough. Should you need quality Ford auto parts like grille, bumper, headlights or engine parts, just visit Ford Parts Discount.

Is your Ford ready for summer?

It’s summer time once again and there’s nothing worse than sitting in traffic in your car with an A/C that doesn’t work – especially if it’s 95 and sunny outside.

Hot and humid weather speed up your car’s wear and tear. Your car’s minor problems, neglected – could easily lead to a breakdown – and it always happens when you least expect it. So to prep your car up for this coming summer season, have your favorite mechanic check the following before you head off to that road trip:

• Air Conditioning system. A good mechanic can look for and repair any leaks in your system and can replace refrigerant that the air conditioner uses to keep your car cool;

• Cooling System. If you haven't had the cooling system of your car flushed recently, do it now. This will help prevent your car from overheating.

• Check your belts and hoses for cracking and have them replaced if necessary.

• Change your oil frequently. Most engines in new cars have longer oil change intervals than cars from a few years ago. Follow your manufacturer’s guidelines and make sure that you hang on to the receipts.

• Check or replace your filters.

• Check to make sure that your lights are functioning properly.

• Replace your windshield wipers. It is recommended that wipers should be replaced twice a year… once before winter so you have a new set to get you through bad weather, and once in the spring to handle those rain storms.

• Inspect your tires. Make sure that your tires are wearing evenly and that they do not need to be replaced.

Are drivers getting dumber?

Did you know that?

• Roughly 1 in 3 drivers don't usually stop for pedestrians even if they're in a crosswalk or at a yellow light.

• At least 1 out of 5 drivers do not know that a pedestrian has the right of way at a marked or unmarked crosswalk. Driving is the new "Down Time"

• American drivers engage in a variety of distracting behaviors, like chatting on a cell phone, sending text messages, e-mailing friends, selecting songs on iPods, applying makeup, changing clothes and reading.

• Eating and talking on a cell phone are by far the most common activities (42% eat and 40% chat on cell phones).

I found this out at The Daily Auto Insider after ordering a few auto parts of Ford F150 at Ford Parts Discount. The report also said that as many as 18 million licensed American drivers lack basic driving knowledge and exhibit alarming behaviors on the road as per the GMAC Insurance National Drivers Second Annual Test. Other more alarming facts that you should know and be wary of are here.

Diesel engine issues hold new F-Series trucks debut back

Ford has reportedly pushed back the launching of its redesigned F-Series Super Duty pickup trucks because of "issues related to a new diesel engine under development for the truck".

Had there been none of these concerns, we would be seeing the Super Duty pickups debut early of this year’s fourth quarter. Now, Ford has moved the launch to January next year.

International Truck and Engine Corp., the operating company of Navistar International Corp., is developing the diesel "Power Stroke" engine for the truck.

Getting your tires right

So have Ford Parts Discount to get your tires for your Ford vehicle. But how do you match tire size and type to your vehicle and road conditions?

Consumer Reports tells us how:

Begin by making sure that new tires are the same size with the same speed and load ratings as the ones originally on your vehicle. Then balance the pros and cons of the type you're considering. Changing tire types is relatively easy on cars; consult your owner's manual before switching. But some SUV manufacturers advise sticking with the type originally on the vehicle.

Ford just might do a plug-in hybrid

Recently, Ford CEO Bill Ford said that the automaker is considering a plug-in hybrid, which can be charged from an ordinary electrical outlet and have a greater range in all-electric mode.

Ford told company shareholders that management was aware that the market is shifting rapidly because of higher oil prices. The comment about the plug-in hybrid was made in response to a question about the company's commitment to reducing its reliance on gas-guzzling trucks and SUVs.

Certainly a plug-in hybrid isn’t the only modern-day answer to reducing our fuel consumption. It would be interesting to see what automakers will do next to ease the situation.

Meanwhile, here’s what you can do to improve your gas mileage:

• Drive more efficiently
• Keep your car in shape
• Plan & combining trips
• Choose a more efficient vehicle

To keep your Ford car in shape, always get only the best replacement auto parts such as wheels, A/C condenser, starter and Ford engine parts at Ford Parts Discount.

Reader’s Digest names F-250 Super Chief “Best Four Wheels”

Ford’s F-250 Super Chief concept, unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in January was recently named “Best Four Wheels” in Reader’s Digest’s’ “America’s 100 Best”. It also received kudos for the "best buzz cut" and "best good Samaritan" from the magazine's editors.

F-250

The truck, earned praise for it's remarkable for its ability to run on three types of fuel: gasoline, E85 ethanol and hydrogen.

Here are its features:

• World’s first Tri-Flex fuel engine: 12 percent better fuel economy, 99 percent fewer CO2 emissions in hydrogen mode and 500 miles between fill-ups
• Bold, American design and innovation: Underscores the design and innovation that will define all Ford vehicles going forward
• New level for interiors: Just as F-150 set the standard for vehicle interiors, the F-250 Super Chief concept shows Ford interior innovations for the future.

It’s good to see that Ford’s alternative-fuel ingenuity rewarded. Hopefully concept vehicles such as this would see production in the near future, of course with further development.

In the meantime, quality Ford auto parts such as F-Series headlights, wheels and front bumper can still be found at your favorite online auto parts store, Ford Parts Discount.

Ford Creates "Design a Car" Reality Show

If you’ve always had ideas about how a Ford car should and could be made, good news for it looks like the chance to put those ideas to work is coming soon.

In the tradition of the American Idol and the Survivor -- shows that have become some of network TV's hottest programming (drawing millions of viewers per week) -- Ford is reportedly planning to produce its own reality show, in which contestants will work with Ford designers to produce a new concept car.

Exciting news huh?

This strategy however, is not without risks. Just recently contestants of The Apprentice were charged with launching the new Chevrolet Tahoe for a group of GM dealers. Unfortunately one team did not exactly do a good job -- that the dealers went home angry.

Let’s just wait for this “Reality” check from Ford. In the meantime, you can still find the best quality Ford auto parts like starter, grille, A/C condenser, radiator support, and more at Ford Parts Discount.

Hertz comes alive again

shelbymustang

So, the legendary Hertz has just risen fro the “dead”.

After launching the 2007 Mustang GT “California Special”, Ford unveiled last week at the New York International Auto Show the 2006 Shelby GT-H, in time for the commemoration of the 40-year anniversary of its legendary Shelby/Hertz GT350H "Rent-a-Racer" program.

Going retro once again, the Dearborn automaker cloned the classic black-and-gold Hertz livery from the 1960s for its 2006 limited-production run of 500 units of the Shelby GT-H. The Hertz will be available later this spring for rent through the Hertz Fun Collection at select airport locations in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

Among the vehicles features will be the Ford’s Racing Performance Group’s Power Pack which adds 25 horsepower and 10 pound-feet of torque to the 300-horse Mustang GT 4.6-liter V8. The package also includes a five-speed automatic transmission, Ford Racing's 90-mm Cold Air kit, the muffler kit, a new X-pipe similar to the one used on the new Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang, and a cat-back performance exhaust.

Of course you won’t miss the black-and-gold exterior color combination referred to by Mustang aficionados as "Hertz colors", along with Shelby's traditional Le Mans dual overbody racing stripes, plus, a set of rocker stripes including the Shelby GT-H nomenclature. The car is also fitted with a custom Shelby Performance hood with pins and a brushed aluminum grille and running horse emblems.

In case you’re a Ford car aficionado, make sure you give your pride and joy only the best replacement auto parts such as spoilers, hubcaps, lights, grilles, floor mats and various engine parts from trusted online auto parts stores like Ford Parts Discount.
